Portal World: Jewels

Noise from the mall fills the background. People of all shapes, colours and sizes talking and spending jewel a wonderful cacophony with a sweet underlying song floating from the mall speakers.

All while I’m looking for an easy swipe. This is my way of giving back for everything she’s done for me. I’ve decided the thinker’s district is the best place for this job, being the district, ruled by jewel and so called ‘democracy.’ Here where most of grass city’s politicians, scientists, strategists and religious people live. All people with full pockets.

Two wealthy looking guys pass me and in an eyeblink I collected all the relevant info on them. The first an energetic guy wearing a black suit on a black button shirt with a black tie and shiny black shoes that must have cost a sapphire.

There’s something about shoes, I don’t really understand, but you can spot the wealthiest by their shoes.

While he’s rambing on about some richman project his friend, dressed casually in a black sports jacket a t- shirt and a jean, nods through his glasses, writes in a black file and complains about his clothes.

This would be my target. She is depending on me.

I take a detour around a shop so I can come from their front.

”So are you excited about what Ruby has achieved?” The energetic one asks intrigued.

Casually I walk up past him and suddenly I ‘accedently’ bump into him while swiftly relieving him of his jewel pouch and quickly backing it up with a ”sorry.”

After walking away with my loot and turning a couple of corners to lose them, I inspect the bag. Inside, I find a fortune. Among the green emeralds and yellow topazes there’s about five blue sapphires and even more, a purple amethyst. I’m rich. I’m more than rich, my debt is paid. More than that, with this I’m set for life.

A purple amethyst is worth a hundred and fourty four blue sapphires. One of which is worth a hundred and fourty four green emeralds and an emerald in turn worth a hundred and fourty four yellow topazes.

As I’m thinking of what I could do with this one purple amethyst, a priest, a tall bald blue skinned man from one of the temples spots me, yelling ”thief!” Probably jealous of my amethyst.

Then, as the priest is making a scene, the guy I stole it from and his friend, who is now dressed in a tuxido, comes around the corner in front of me.

Shit. What now?
No no no. She is going to be blazing if I lose an amethyst because of some priest’s stupidity.

”Kamear demands for street rats like you to be enslaved!”

In a split second decision I swallow the amethyst and throw the rest in the nearest trashcan as I start running.

Next thing I know, I’m enveloped in some kind of shadow, unable to move ‘cept for by heart trying to break out of my ribcage.

”Mage! Mages aren’t allowed outside their towers! I’ll have you reported to your headmaster!”

”You, blue man, what did you just say?” I hear a somewhat familiar voice, but whose? I can’t turn around to look, being statued like this.

”I merely told the filthy witch where his place is.”

That voice again, ”What else did you say?”

 I think it’s the one I stole from, but why would he… Oh… No… He’s th├ít man.

The priest, ”Sir I doubt that your mind can fully comprehend the will of the god, Kamear. The one who led the Dragons, built this great city of grass and created gracien. If you are implying that I said something wrong, I assure you a bishop of Kamear is incapable of sin.”

”There’s that name again ‘Kamear’, Shadow who is this Kamear and why does he claim my achievements?”

”I believe the blue man is truely speaks of you, my lord but it seems he is incapable of correctly pronouncing your name, likely because your cult was created and disbanded before gracien was perfected, my lord.”

‘That makes sense, I forgot about making a cult. Shadow, remind me of this if I ever try something similar again.”

”This is blasphemy! How dare you call yourself the great Kamear?! You should die for this!”

Sounding sarcastic ”No, my dear follower you are the one committing blasphemy for mispronouncing my name, the name of the one you call a god. My name is Gamer, not Kamear and I believe that means you have sinned, so you are the one to be, what was it that you said, enslaved.”

Wow did I really steal from him. This is really bad. I have to get out of here.

”Shadow that is the one who stole my amethyst, right?”

”Yes, my lord, I believe so.”

”Then take him with us, and don’t forget to go back and pay for that tux. Lightning Eel, let’s go.”

Then a bright light starts to shine around me followed by being in some underground tunnel.

Portal World: Wake up call

”Yes, I know he’s innocent, but what can I do? They want him enslaved or killed really bad.”

”It’s still not right, it’s injustice.” I, a teenager ‘princess’ plead at my father, the king of grass. ”Nobody should be able to receive a punishment like that just because someone high and mighty is jealous of them.”

”Daughter, my wife adopted your sister and she in turn persuaded me to adopt you aswell, only but a week ago. If I were you, I’d keep my mouth. After all the man did say he created this wonderful city and insult their god.”

”Yeah yeah I know, but I don’t care. Abandon me if you want, I didn’t ask for a father and I don’t need one. Mine made that clear about six years ago when him and my mother, along with my sister vanished, leaving me behind” with a couple of tears in my eyes I continue. ”All I’m asking for is to be the great leader everyone thinks you are and let the innocent man live”

”Girl! You are out of your place.” frustrated he continues as he walks out onto the balcony, overlooking the city, ”I have to make tough decisions, it’s my job! Like sacrificing one man so the majority is happy,”

I follow him to the balcony when a shadow appears between us then turns into a man. The exact man we were speaking of at that.

As both me and the king freezes with fear, the man, clothed in a modern suit with black on black starts to speak. ”Hello, sorry to frighten you, I asked a friend of mine to teleport me up. You look like you were busy so I’ll leave you to your conversation while I go and conduct some business.”

As he aims to head inside the king yells ”Guards!” And in ten seconds he is surrounded by 12 guards, all dressed in metal plate armor with energy blades pointed at him.
He looks at a digital pocket watch then says,”Tweety seconds, I could have killed your king by now.” Then, at the soldiers’ amazement he casually walks past their swords to one of them and pokes his helmet, making them all flinch and box him in so he can’t move anywhere, for if he does, he would be cut by one of their energy blades.

An awkward silence passes while the guard captain looks at the king with an expression that asks what they should do next. Then the guy in black speaks. ”Great stuff, fancy metal you’ve got here, very strong and light. And for your reaction time, top notch. Although I’m not here to test out your security…”

The king interrupts him, ”Then why are you here?”

”To converse with your other daughter, of course, you know the one whose special ability you abused to get your office.”

I can’t believe my ears, did he really abuse my sister?

”Mmm, you’re relatively new right, came through the portal and taking on gracien only a few weeks ago and now you’re a princess. That must make you Aela, Ruby’s older sister, although she’s a little older than you now. Time travel right, it’s a pain. I have a time travelling friend named Healer, but of course I’m getting side tracked.”

Before saying ”Catch” he takes something out of his pocket and tosses it to me, who is stunned, confused, angry and sad of what I just heard.

The ball shaped device falls on the ground and rolls a bit before rolling off the balcony behind me while the enraged king tries to get answers from him. ”How do you know of these things?! Did you kill my wife?! How did you get here?!”

”All great questions but I need to go, and before I do,” he moves his head forward into the energy blade at his neck, slicing open his throat and spewing red blood on the floor.

”I’m immortal and I built this city, that means I won’t have the corrupt rule it. I’m looking for a replacement for you so be cautious of your decisions. Abusing a little girl is just as bad as indebting the city to the Cloak. Ruby is not a tool.”

After that a shadow starts to cover him then fades into thin air, leaving me with only more questions, as well as dispising feeling toward the king.

Portal World: Bonds

”Okay, that’s better, now do it again,” My father instructs.

”But I’m tired!”

”Then this is the best time to push through. It will enhance your stamina and increase your mana pool.”

”Okay, but just once more.”

”Once more is enough, son.”

I close my eyes and imagine a pitch black wolf, one with bright blue eyes. I focus on it’s features and imagine it’s insides working like father once taught me. The systems within the body, blood flowing to cells, nerves sending signals, lungs oxidizing blood.

After having all of it’s details in my head I focus on my envy and jealousy of it. How it can run fast and have enhanced senses that I don’t and how beautiful it is that I’m not. How it’s free to roam, while I have to sit through peace treaties.

I go down on all fours and howl as I open my eyes that are now that of the wolf.

”Good job son.”

The words break my consentration and I immediately revert back into a human.

Tired and grumpy I suggest, ”Thanks, but I feel like I can just sleep here on the floor.”

”Nonsense, you have a bed for a reason. Besides we meet with the Lion’s Pride this afternoon for the treaty and the chief’s son has to be present.

”But dad, we already have centaurs, minotaurs, crab people, wolf people, pigmen and bears. How many of the tribes of fur do we need. Moreover the Minotaurs are mad at the Wolves. Tensions within the alliance need to be mended before we add a member.”

”You’re not even sixteen yet and you already think like a leader. However we need all of the tribes and the mere 11 that owe us alliegence are not enough to take the city of grass. They need to pay… Slavery of people, just because they’re half of what’s considered an animal is still wrong. And that vampire…”

”Vampire?”

”Never mind her, we need to go, can’t be late. It will set a bad example.”

Then he turns to exit the hut. I jump as lightning strikes in front of the front door even though the weather is clear, then a shirtless guy appears where it striked with tattoos of lightning bolts all over his body, wearing headphones and a jean with brand new sneakers.

Shockingly my father doesn’t flinch. Instead he asks with a stern voice,

”Who sent you, and why? Only a few outsiders know about this camp. I bet it’s that immortal slaver by the looks of you.”

”Slaver? No bra, our leader’s a builder an a freedom fighter wi no want for rulin over others. Anyway he ast to tell you he find Aela an Ruby’s joinin the squad.”

”No! I’m begging you don’t drag Ruby into your mess.” With a desperate tone ” hasn’t she been abused enough already?” Then he collects himself again. ”So why is he telling me this?”

”He say he need a place fo dem to stay, whe de grass can’t find dem. He also say he want to meet you tomorrow at a ‘Red River Rook’, whadeva dat is, when sun is top of sky.”

”Anything else?”

”No, I leave now, wait you come, right?”

With a flat tone, ”Tell the asshole I’ll be there. Also ask him to bring the vampire, it’s been years and that’s such a memorable setting. She should see the man her son,” looking in my direction ”grew up to be.”

”I tell him so, bye bye” then the guy’s skin starts to glow, followed by a lightning strike up into the sky.

”Dad?” I ask as he loses his composure and falls to his knees, crying, suddenly in tears and shambles.

”I feared this day would come” is all I hear him say through the tears.
